Missing the Kiss

POEM OF THE MONTH
***********************************************************Missing
the Kiss
On that clear night so long ago
Through the gift of a child God would show
He offers peace to wayward man
The bill would be paid by nail-scarred hands

Would He have come to the likes of me
Would I have the time to stop and receive
Would I constantly be on the go
Preparing for census and festival

Would all of my chores and being behind
Cause me to stress and thus be blind
To the quiet whisper of a New Testament
Would I notice His glory as I came and went

Maybe He thought to come to the door
Of the rich the powerful the beggar and poor
Did He see that their hearts weren’t prepared to receive
That they wage their souls for a chance to achieve

Yet shepherds were poised in the field that night
Knowing not that they’d soon see His light
Not knowing that God was preparing for them
To proclaim God’s peace to mortal men

With feet swift and hearts far away
Striving to get our chores done each day
Would we miss the kiss of God on the earth
Acceptance from Him should bring dancing and mirth

I conclude that He would not come
To one so busy ‘till I have come undone
At the end of myself when I finally look up
To a gracious God who fills my cup

Please help me God to understand
You want the best for mortal man
But you won’t force your grace or amazing peace
To have these gifts we must be still and receive

MESSAGE
What is Christmas all about? It’s the time and season where
we have extra shopping, extra baking, extra chores, extra
correspondence, decorating, gift giving, and extra events
galore. Many people struggle with all sorts of problems
ranging from money to stress, anxiety and depression. I
don’t think this is what God intended when He sent His Son
as a baby to redeem mankind. It was His kiss to us on the
earth. He came to deliver us but the very holiday that we
are supposed to celebrate His arrival becomes the source of
our undoing. He came discreetly, He announced His arrival
to lowly shepherds who were out in the country far from the
hustle and bustle of Bethlehem. I stopped and asked myself
in the middle of my own Christmas chaos if He would have
come to me. I had to answer “no”, I was so busy this year
I would have missed His kiss on the earth. God’s voice is
a whisper, it is discreet, and requires us to be still and
know that He is God.
